ADI Driving Instructor Courses

Highway training and driving school was established in 1986. Since that time the company has had great success in training ADIs and getting a very high percentage of students through their driving tests. We look forward to assisting you on the road to a rewarding career as a DRIVING INSTRUCTOR.

ADI Training in Middlesex.

TO BECOME A DRIVING INSTRUCTOR

The first set of criteria

1) Have you held a full UK licence for at least three and a half years

2) You are at least 21 years old

3) You have no more than 5 points on your licence

4) You have no criminal convictions. A CRB check will be required

5) Be able to read a car No plate at 27.5 metres ( 90 feet )

You must ask yourself honestly;

Are you a very good , safe driver yourself. Remember how you drive will reflect on how your students drive. You want to produce drivers who can drive safely for life.

1) Are you very patient

2) Are you an excellent communicator

3) Are you a good motivator

4) Are you a good teacher/coach

ADI COURSES/ DRIVING INSRUCTOR TRAINING

If you are eager to become a driving instructor it is possilble to achieve this within 6 months.You will be able to study around your present job .

Part 1 Theory Test

a home study course with a phone link to us at HIGHWAY. All the necessary books will be provided.

Part 2 Driving Ability

We will assess your driving skills and put right any problems. We will allow you up to 5 hours of tuition. More can be provided at an extra fee if necessary.

Part 3 Ability to Teach

On this test you must demonstrate your ability to teach. The examiner will play the role of the pupil. He will designate a topic for a Pupil at one of the 3 standards listed below.

He will choose 2 areas of tuition and you have to demonstrate your ability to put over the relevant information to the pupil. Then get the pupil to carry your instructions in a safe manner. You will be required to pick up any driver faults and correct them. Also you will need to get used to the Q & A technique.

Your pupil will be

1) A Novice Pupil

2) At an Intermediate Standard

3) At Test Standard

Your overall performance will be rated, and based on the examiner's judgement your result will be declared.

On a personal level I think all those wishing to become An ADI should be able to pass PARTS 1 & 2 FIRST TIME. It shows your level of commitment.

Part3 is the toughest test. But with the experience we have at HIGHWAY you will be successful.

You must pass all 3 tests within 2 years

Up to 40 hours of classroom plus in car tuition are needed to achieve the high standard needed to pass this final stage and to get your GREEN BADGE. This enables you to teach students to drive and charge them a tuition fee.

CHECK TESTING FOR AN ADI

Once accepted onto the Register of Approved Driver Instructors you will be required to have check tests. The first check test usually within 6 months is purely "educational" to see how you are getting along. You are then generally called for a check test once within the life of your Green Badge which is renewable every 4 years. An ADI is graded on a 1-6 standard. Six being the top grade. If your standard falls to 3 or less you may be called for extra check tests.

The Complete Course cost is £1850 - this is includes exam fees (Parts 1, 2 & 3)
